Biography
Karen McNally is Professor of Film, Television and Cultural History at London Metropolitan University. She has published widely on themes related to Hollywood stardom, genre, American identity and US history and politics, including in Journal of American Studies and European Journal of American Culture. Her published books are on the topics of Frank Sinatra, Billy Wilder and Mad Men, and most recently The Stardom Film (2020) and American Television during a Television Presidency (2022). Karen’s forthcoming volume Women in Hollywood’s Dream Factory: Tales of Inequality, Abuse, and Resistance publishes with University of Illinois Press in 2026. She is currently conducting research for a historical biography of Lana Turner supported by a Leverhulme Major Research Fellowship.
